We’re in this together – oil sands industry partnered with AHS to administer 17,000 vaccines

It has been a long time that we have been dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are closer to our collective goal of reopening and returning to a more normal life.

Oil sands companies and OSCA have been working with Alberta Health Services, municipal and provincial governments to continuously build upon the measures in place to reduce COVID-19 exposure. Keeping our workers and communities healthy and safe is our number one priority.

We are now focused on transitioning to Stage 3 and opening the province up in the best and most seamless way possible.

The oil sands industry is committed to helping the provincial health system and the region in its vaccine roll out. The oil sands industry has been an essential service during this pandemic and will continue to play a pivotal role as we navigate this third wave of COVID-19 in the region, Alberta and Canada. AHS and the oil sands industry have partnered on vaccine roll out.

Two rounds of on-site immunization clinics took place at industrial camps and sites in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, with almost 17,000 total vaccines being administered. We would like to thank the oil sands companies and AHS for all the hard work and planning on this initiative.

  • The first round of clinics were offered at seven sites and 8,400 successful immunizations took place.
  • The second round of clinics (at seven sites) were wrapped up at the end of June and over 8,500 successful first and second dose immunizations took place.

The COVID-19 vaccines save lives, and protect our health and the health of those around us. As more people get vaccinated, the stronger the protection we will all have collectively in the months ahead. If you have not already, please book your vaccine appointment as soon as possible.
